Hi Harry This was new in R2 so not sure if there is a workaround for a "template" based solution. You'd be able to script a solution, perhaps around WMI - Win32_Process: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vbscript/wmi_process.htm Cheers GrahamNew SCOM 2012 Blog! - http://www.systemcentersolutions.com/blog/ View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi Graham, Need to monitor a process and alert when the process isn't running. By Workaround I meant, can we create any kind of monitor to do the same thing, because when we create a process monitor in R2 it creates monitors/rules in background. Thanks, Harry :-)

Hi Harry I don't have time to run through the specifics of this as I'm about to head out onsite but if you want to do this in the SCOM console (as opposed to the authoring console) then you could: - create a group for servers that should be running this service - create a script based monitor which uses WMI to see if the process is running. The url above gives the basic query - you just need to add a where clause to specify the specific process you are interested in. Make the monitor disabled. - Override the monitor to enable it for the group. There are a few examples on the internet for creating script based monitors and leveraging property bags. This is one which is SQL rather than WMI based but the idea of using the property bags is the same: http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_stranger/archive/2009/02/02/opsmgr-sql-full-or-differential-backup-check.aspx Good Luck GrahamNew SCOM 2012 Blog! - http://www.systemcentersolutions.com/blog/ View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/
