Problems with Copy and paste into Datasheet view from Excel 2003
Hi, Prior to this week users have regularly used the Datasheet View friom various lists to be able to append mulitple records to the end of a list. We have MOSS 2007, WSS3.0, Office 2003, and IE 6 (no prospect of updating these last 2). Today, when anyone tries to do a paste from any spreadsheet to any sharepoint list, nothing happens. No cells can be copied. the only paste operation from Excel that still works is pasting Text into a single sharepoint datasheet cell. Strangely it is still possible to paste from one sharepoint list to another. I suspect that the IT admin team might have caught up with MOSS SP1 and various patches during their server updates at the weekend, (possibly even MOSS SP2). Could this have caused the Datasheet view to stop functioning suddenly? Is this a known issue? is there a fix anywhere? Thanks Ruth, UK

> We have MOSS 2007, WSS3.0, Are you talking about two separate forms? You can only install either MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0 on the same set of servers.2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

Hi Mike, I am working in a big organisation and I think some of the servers do only have WSS3 on. I have experienced this issue on one of the MOSS servers this week, in a number of Custom lists at the root of a Site Collection. Update: 1 person from a different office was able to paste into a list this am. So it might not be purely a server issue. Our office are running excel version : Excel 2003 SP3 (11.8316.8221). ThanksRuth, UK

There is no documentation showing this functionality being broken in this way by any Sharepoint update or service pack. To help determine whether this is client or server. What happens if you attempt to paste from a different source application such as notepad? Use tab between cell contents or paste from excel into notepad then from there into the datasheet view.Fred Ellis - MSFT

Thanks for that info Fred. After a couple of weeks of pain, this seems to have just started working again. (No change to the SP/version number of Excel, but it might be a desktop or Internet Explorer change that has since been made). IE is currently IE6.0.2900.5512.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090904-1435. Windows XP version is XP Pro SP3 Build 2600 Sadly, as It's a big organisation I may never know quite why this happened :-(Ruth, UK
