Problems when forwarding NDR's the get translated to Chinese garble (if it is Chinese :) )

Hi There

We're running on an Exchange 2013 server. When users get a NDR (look OK at this time), but when forwarding the NDR to system admin, they get garbled into Chinese (or what looks like Chinese). Any ideas on solving this ?

Kind Regards

Log on to the mailbox with OWA, open Options, and see what the language settings on the mailbox are.

Hi Kim,

In addition to Ed's suggestion, you can use the following cmdlet to verify the language setting of the mailbox.

Get-Mailbox xxxx | fl Name,Languages

If the language is not the language that you want, you can use the cmdlet below to set it.

Set-Mailbox xxxx -Languages en-us

Hope this can be helpful to you.

Best regards,

Hi Ed and Amy

Thanks for Your replies. I don't think its a problem with the language (but I've also checked and they are set to Danish, so thery're OK). Problem occurs in Outlook 2013, when a user receive a NDR it looks OK on the users Outlook and OWA, but when forwarded (even to a external mail), it gets garbled. I will however try to forward through OWA, then I know for sure, if maybe the Outlook 2013 is the problem. I'll post the result on the owa test later.

Hi All

I can confirm now it is a problem related to Outlook 2013, when forwarding NDR from OWA it arrives just perfect, without garbled Chinese.

@ Ed and Amy: Do You have any ideas ?

Found this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969129/da - Not quite sure if it can be applied to Exchange 2013 or if will solve the problem at all. I'll have a look for the DisableDetectEncodingFromMetaTag

Hi Kim,

Since the issue only occurs on Outlook. I recommend you use Outlook safe mode to verify whether the problem is caused by add-ins.

If the issue persists, please use the /cleanclientrules command to start Outlook and delete client-based rules temporarily to determine whether the issue is related to client-based rules.

Hope my clarification is helpful.

Kim

Did you ever get a solution to this problem? We are seeing the same exact thing. I saw one reference to an article in this post but it is for Exchange 2007 and really not the same problem. Can someone from Microsoft confirm this is a problem and offer a solution?

Thanks,
