Problem with new secondary site - clients not assigning
We have just installed a new secondary site server in our New York office, the primary site server is in our London office. I have installed the management point roles, set it as the default MP, set the boundaries for the NY AD site, but clients just refuse to assign to this site and instead default back to our UK site. This is from the client site logs: A Fallback Status Point has not been specified. Message with STATEID='500' will not be sent. Client can be assigned to site <UK1>. LocationServices 12/04/2010 08:42:38 2704 (0x0A90) It says site codes dont match, but Ive checked the data published in AD with ADSI Edit and both the site and MP appear to be fine. Ive tried installing the clients with no switches and forcing the site code, but nothing works - they always default back to the UK site. Ive also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the MP several times, the logs always say installation was successful. Im starting to think perhaps I should uninstall SCCM altogether and try reinstalling, I did have an issue with installing this site server using the New Secondary Site Wizard from the primary site server so I just installed manually using the media. However, the primary site server is still throwing errors trying to copy the bootstrap file to start the installation, even though the server is installed now. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Many thanks in advance

Hi, SCCM clients cannot be assigned to secondary sites, they are always assigned to the parent primary site. However, if they reside in the boundaries of the secondary site, they can take advantage of any proxy management points and distribution points at the secondary site. ahhh! That makes sense then... However, my secondary site server has the management point role installed, but the clients still show as using the primary site server for management. Should the clients realise that there is a working proxy MP in their boundaries?

Depending upon what you mean by that statement, yes: their Management Point will be the primary site's MP. Their ProxyMP will be the Secondary Site (assuming boundaries etc are defined correctly). Do you have Roger Zanders' Client Center? Using that you can quickly see what MP a client is using. For me, it would show something like PrimarySiteMP:ProxyMP in the management point information when I query an individual client via Rogers' Client Center.Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

Thats actually quite funny! Ive been sitting here scratching my head over this for over a day and its been working all along! Thanks for the pointer to the Client Center, it has the correct settings when I look at the management points. Thanks again!
