Problem with Sharepoint list sorting
Hi, as part of our Sharepoint Collab site I use a Custom List which when resorted uses the hexadecimal system which puts the sections out of order. i.e. it jumps from 1.9 to 10 as opposed to using the decimal system which goes from 1.9 to 2. Does anyone know how to change Sharepoint so it sorts lists using decimal? I’ve searched everywhere for an option to change this but can’t find it. Any help hugely appreciated. Thanks James

I've seen this before and it appears that sharepoint casts everything as a string before sorting. One way I've worked around this before is to have a "sort column". Use a calculated field to take its value from the decimal field, but format it so that it has leading zeros and such. That way, it will sort properly.--Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS) Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Blogging @ http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul Twitter @ http://www.twitter.com/pagalvin
