Problem with Sharepoint backups on DPM2010

Ok, here is the history of this one as this will probably help someone give me an answer.  The disk array failed on our DPM server that we use for disk backups so we got that replaced with new disks, got it up and running but the only thing we are now having problems with is some of the Sharepoint backups.  They show as "Backup metadata enumeration failed" or "replica is inconsistent" the other day i managed to remove one of the share point servers from a protection group, I have tried to re add this server back to the group but it wont let me, it keeps saying "the data source cannot be selected for protection because it was previously protected as part of data source xxxxxxxx and has inactive disk or tape replicas ID 31086"  It then says about remove the inactive protection, but I can not do this as it is not selected to be backed up anymore.

Thanks.

Hi,

other day i managed to remove one of the share point servers from a protection group,

I'm not sure what you meant by that because when DPM protects a sharepoint farm, it automatically selects the WFE and the Content databases on the SQL servers hosting them.  You really don't have the ability to de-select a servers in the sharepoint farm.

If you decommissioned a server in a SharePoint farm, or removed a database from SharePoint - the proper way to have DPM recognize that change is to stop protection of the farm and retain the replica, then re-protect it.  At that time, DPM will re-enumerate the farm and re-discover the servers and content databases and add them to the protection while it takes that SharePoint datasources out of inactive protection.

I went into the protected group and simply clicked "remove" on the Sharepoint server and it removed it from the protection group, I am now unable to re add it again, to this, or any other group.

Hi,

You can remove "data sources" from a protection. There is no ability to remove a computer from a protection group.

So - with that said, did you remove the "sharepoint" data source from the protection group - and if so, if you did not delete the replica, it should now be in an inactive protection group.

If you make a new protection group or modify an existing group and  re-enumerate the Web front end server - does the sharepoint icon get listed so you can re-protect it ?
