Problem with Report viewer , no data is displayed and report comes out as empty
Hi , Ihave a problem using Report Viewer With SQL Reporting Services 2005. I had a really weird issue with a ReportViewer. It would show the little green Loading progress bar image but it wouldnt show any data, just a white background where the output should be. I knew the data was there because exporting to Excel or PDF showed the data just fine. The problem is report toolbar is display but NO DATA is displayed and the report comes out as EMPTY. Thanks in advance.. Can you please help me out in resolving this problem.

I am currently experiencing the exact same problem. Only one user is affected however. Changing the font size has made no difference. The report never gets rendered in the HTML viewer BUT they can export to Excel etc fine. Very strange.

That is a most strange problem. Can both of you send me more detail? Browser version. OS Version. RS Version. Details of what is in the report. The log information from the Report Server for that request. Any other information you might find usefull. I have the same problem. It *may* have started after .NET 3.5 SP1VS2008 SP1, Windows XP SP2, IE7Issue Report can be viewed correctly in HTML/Report viewer (ASP.NET)PDF export shows first page as blank followed by a correct PageExcel export does not show anything except page headerThis used to work !!! because Unit testing was completedOur company recently deployed IE7 and I had upgraded to 3.5 SP1 a month or so agoI'm not sure what broke this !!Thanks in advance

I also have this problem. One user cannot render reports no matter what level of security they are put as. They definitely have access to view the data because the export to excel option works and the figures are displayed fine in excel. In report manager the green circle just goes round saying it is processing.I have checked the report server logs and the report only gets logged once I have exported it to excel. I have a report set up that accesses the logs and displays the number of failed report attempts etc. These failures to render do not show up as requests, failed or otherwise. It is as if the request has never been sent to the report server, there is no log of it. However, the times I have clicked on the report and exported to excel, those requests do show up.The user with the problem is using IE 6, XP Pro SP2we are using SQL 2005 v2 of the .NET framework is installed on the server, the reportview control that gets load is Version=9.00.3042.00 (the standard SQL 2005 one). Now the thing is, this user can go to a differentPCwith the same setup (the company has a standard install build so same IE6 same OS set up etc) where a different user can accessand render the reports fine but if he logs on to that PC where it was working it will have the same problem and not render. This makes me think it is logon specific but it has to be something logon related that will also be transferred wherever they log in.We also have another server. This server can deliver reports via an asp.net front end application. This is running .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and has a different reportviewer control as it has the Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2008 version as opposed to the 2005 version that came with our SQL server. The user can access a report on this server through the application using that reportviewer and it rendersok. No problems there. So I think it must be the old reportviewer control or.NET framework and this users logon? It is a very frustrating error as there is only one user (so far) affected by it.Any help appreciated!!

I have looked into our bug database and tried to think of scenarios where I have seen this issue before. The only time I have seen something similar is when viewing reports in Opera.AnonymousPinto - Your issue sounds like a report design problem. The viewer does only sends the request for PDF or Excel and does not do any additional processing. Please make sure your report is correct.izzmunkee - This does sound like a permissions issue. You can try to use a Fiddler trace to see the request about what is happening and hopefull get more information.Brad Syputa, Microsoft Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties.

Well. The user having the problems has tried using my PC to look at reports and it works fine, with no changes to his permissions. We both use IE, same operating system etc etc, standard builds so all the same. Now on his PC it works for me but not for him. So now it seems to be a problem for him on his PC. Trouble is I have now found another user with the problem. They used to be able to see the reports but now they can't. Nothing has changed on his PC (that he can think of in the two months since he last tried to view the reports and they worked) and nothing has changed in the permissions. So I am pretty sure it isn't permission related now as they can view reports on other peoples PC's but not their own. However, their PC's are capable because myself and other people can view reports on them, just they can't.I don't even know where to start narrowing down the problem!

Just in case this helps anyone. One of the users has got Google Chrome Browser installed and the reports although displayed a little 'differently' work quickly and adequately. This suggests to me that it is an IE related user specific issue. Does anyone know any settings in IE that might be causing this problem?

Hi Jay,Chrome and Safari are not fully supported. Internet Explorer is the only fully supported browser. Firefox is supported for most viewing situations. Our upcoming R2 release, we are expanding to support FF and Safari but have not extended to Chrome yet.You can file an issue at http://connect.microsoft.comif you would like to see more\better browser support.Brad Syputa, Microsoft Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties.

I have the same problem. We have a web app available to customers over the Internet and I have two sites who have this issue. Every PC at these sites has the same exact problem. The report toolbar is there, but the report page is blank. The only way to see the report is to export to Excel or PDF. Running the report in Firefox displays the report data, so it seems to be isolated to IE. Customers are running various versions of IE 6 and IE 7. Any ideas as to what kind of settings may be causing this behavior? We have many other customers at many other sites who have no problems. I've tried clearing the browser, resetting the browser to base settings, setting trusted sites, and adjusting security. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I am having this issue as well... everything works fine in decent browsers, but it will not work in IE6... exact same issue as original poster: data is there in export, but nothing is displayed in HTML... but only IE6 is a problem.
