Are you facing this issue on all clients you try to trigger HW/SW inventory? Can be a WMI issue. Try running WMIDIAG on any one of the clients which you are facing this error.

HI Ashish,Yeah..This issue is based on a particular client machine. I also expected WMI problem and did a repair. (Dont know whether it is a right step, as I am new to SMS). While monitoring the client log files, I am finding three log files getting updated all the times. They are StatusAgent.log, PolicyEvaluator.log, Scheduler.log. I hope some policies are getting downloaded to the client from MP. So one doubt, after WMI Repair , do I need to wait for hours to run an Inventory or does it happen automatically as per schedule. Thanks Sreeni...

The Inventory would happen according to the Schedule. If you have logged in locall on one machine open the Configuration manager Client (From Control Panel) Clieck on Actions Tab and Select the Action "Initiate H/W Inventory " and clieck on Initiate action button. That will trigger H/W Inventory you can do the same step mentioned above for Software Inventory Cycle.WMIDIAG can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d7ba3cd6-18d1-4d05-b11e-4c64192ae97d&displaylang=en It is always better to run WMIDiag as it will help ascertain the current state of the WMI service on the computer.
