Problem while configuring SharePoint Usage Reporting
Hello all. I was given an already developed MOSS 2007 (Standard) web application, up and running, and I was requested to activate the usage reporting services. So, I did a little search and found the following article that explains just how to do what I want: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262541(office.12).aspx As I go through the article, I come across this step on the "Enable usage reporting" section: "On the SSP home page, in the Office SharePoint Usage Reporting section, click Usage reporting." So, now I notice that I don't have a Shared Service Provider and I can't go on with the aforementioned article. Alright, I did a little search and found this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262649(office.12).aspx Which would guide me through creating a SSP. No problemo. I follow the steps until I reach the 19th: "In the Index Server section, in Index Server, click the server on which you configured the Search service". And yet no option is available for me, and rather displays a "there's no index server" messsage. But hold on, the same article reads: "If there is no index server listed in the Index Server section, then no server in your farm has been assigned the index server role. To assign the index server role to a server in your farm, follow the instructions in <article>". Argh! So, I go to the suggested article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263005(office.12).aspx which would guide me on. I do follow the steps and everything goes well until I reach the section "Specifying the front-end Web server to use for crawling". In its third step, it reads: "On the Services on Server page, in the Service column, click Office SharePoint Server Search". But as I go back to my Central Administration page, as suggested by the article, I notice that there is no "Office SharePoint Server Search option". And so, I'm stuck and don't know what else to do. I've been doing further research, but I haven't come down with a solution. Therefore, I'm kindly asking for help regarding this matter: what can I do, is there any workaround, do I have to install MOSS over again? Any clue, however small it might be, will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Fernando Gmez fermasmas.wordpress.com

Hi there, thanks for your reply. There is one server for SQL Server, and one server for SharePoint. I already cyhecked on the server name and the radio button options (it's set tu customized, and are disabled, so I can't edit them). Thanks again. Fernando Gmez fermasmas.wordpress.com
