Problem viewing page with anonymous access site
We have an intranet site and the same site has been extended to internet zone for an anonymous access site. We can see contents from the anonymous site. However, when we try to view common pages like https://myAppUrl/_layouts/settings.aspx (Intranet or Publisher url) we can get to the page. But when we try the same page from the anonymous site: http://myAppUrl/_layouts/settings.aspx (Internet with anonymous access) we can not get to the page. It gives a 401 UNAUTHORIZED. Thanks, Soumya

Hi Soumya B, When you configure anonymous access, did you select “Entire Web Site”? If not, please select this option, then check the effect. Please check whether you break the permission inheritance with the parent site and then remove anonymous access to the publishing site? if so, please change them back, then check the effect. For more information about configuring Anonymous Access, please refer to the following articles: HOWTO: Configuring a Office SharePoint Server 2007 Publishing Site with Dual Authentication Providers and Anonymous Access http://www.andrewconnell.com/blog/articles/HowToConfigPublishingSiteWithDualAuthProvidersAndAnonAccess.aspx Configuring and Deploying Anonymous Publishing Sites for SharePoint Server 2007 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638968(office.12).aspx Plan security for an external anonymous access environment (Office SharePoint Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263468(office.12).aspxRegards, Rock Wang Microsoft Online Community Support

_Layouts/settings.aspx is an administrative page and of course Anonymous ASccess will not be able to access the page. However, you are able to access /_layouts/viewlsts.aspx to view all of the lists on the site -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Thanks Rock. Yes, I selected "Entire Web Site" when configuring the anonymous access. As you suggested, quite possibly it iwas because of the broken permission inheritance followed by removing anonymous access in the publishing site. Eventually, resetting the anonymous access did resolve the problem. What I mean by resetting is we took anonymous access away at the _layouts/setanon.aspx page and then again re-assigned anonymous access back to the entire website. Thanks Ivan, yes, should have known that _layouts/settings.aspx is an admin page and should not test with that. We were getting similar behavior with _layouts/viewlsts.aspx and now with the above fix the problem is resolved. Thaks, Soumya
