Problem printing from reports in Windows 7 64 bit
Hi My reportserver is SQLServer 2005 with SP3 running on Windows Server 2003 My local machine is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and IE8 When I try to print a report from the report server I now get an message which says (rather unhelpfully) An error occurred during this operation. The message box header says Report Viewer - Microsoft Internet Explorer. Any solutions welcomed. There was no problem when I was running XP Charles

Hi Charles, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services use RSClientPrint control to print reports. RSClientPrint control is an ActiveX control, which is needed to install in the clients. In Reporting Services 2005, we only have 32 bit version RSClientPrint control. This means if we use 64 bit version Internet Explorer to open reports, we are not able to print them. To fix the issue, please run Internet Explorer in 32 bit mode. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks, Jin ChenJin Chen - MSFT

Hi Jin I'm running the 32 bit version as default. If I open the IE8 from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer folder I get the same error. I'm not certain what you mean by the detailed error message. The only message is 'An error occurred during this operation' Best regards Charles

Hi Charles, From the error message, the issue is caused by rsclientprint.dll. Generally, it should be caused by the assembly(rsclientprint.dll) is corrupt or the RSClientPrint is blocked by Internet Explorer(IE)(RSClientPrint control is a ActiveX). We can try these steps to solve the issue: 1. Make sure ActiveX is enabled in IE a. Click "Tools" >> "Internet Options..." b. Go to "Security" tab. c. Select appropriate zone(for example, if Report Server site is added to Trusted sites zone, please select Trusted sites zone) d. Click "Custom Level" c. Make sure "Download signed ActiveX controls" is enabled or prompted. 2.Delete the temporary a. Click "Tools" >> "Internet Options..." b. In "General" tab, click "Setting..." in the "Browsing history" group c. Click "View objects" d. In the new Windows Explorer window, delete the all rsclientprint ojbects. The last thing to be checked is that the Reporting Services is updated to date. For SQL Server 2005, the latest version is cumulative update(CU) for SQL Server 2005 Services package(SP) 3: SQL Server 2005 SP3: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ae7387c3-348c-4faa-8ae5-949fdfbe59c4 CU9 for SQL Server 2005 SP3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980176 If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. I follow Jin Chen's steps but when I click print on ReportViewer 2010 in ASP.NET. It showed Internet Explorer has stoped working. My Environment: Windows 7 Professional 64 bits + IE8 32 bit mode + MS SQL Server 2008 R2 + VS 2010 Pro
