Problem assigning default values to document library
I am having a problem with “default values” for document properties persisting when I move documents between libraries. Specifically, I have a library that receives new items via e-mail and automatically assigns a default value to a certain property. This process seems to work since e-mail generated items in this library appear as checked-in and contain the appropriate default value. However, if I don’t do anything else with the uploaded items and use Windows Explorer to move the documents to another library containing the same property, the default value disappears. Even stranger, if I merely open the document properties for editing, do nothing and click “OK” to save the properties in their unaltered state, I can then move the document using Windows Explorer and the value persists. My users need to be able to select multiple documents from the e-mail enabled library and move them to other libraries with the default values intact. Does anyone have any idea WHY the default values are not actually bound to the document unless I “edit” the properties, or any suggestions for getting SharePoint to assign default values for e-mail submitted documents so that they persist when they move to other libraries containing the same property? On a similar matter, does anyone know of a way to select more than one value as a default value for a multiple select checkbox property? The value appears to be stored in the property as “Option 1; Option 2;”, but I cannot set this as a default value because “a Choice column must be chosen from amongst the specified choices” which appear as items in a vertical list in the “Change Column” page. Is there a way using a workflow or some other method to programmatically assign multiple values to a “choice” column whenever new items are added to a library? Thank you,Matt Delfs
