Printers not showing in Print Management on Local Server

Fresh Server 2012 R2 VM on Hyper-V setup as a print server only.  It allows me to add printers and they show up in the Control Panel in Devices and Printers, but they don't show up in Print Management under server (local). Ports and drivers show up.

If I connect to it from Computer Management on my Windows 7 machine the printers show up.

Any ideas what would be blocking the printers from being viewed?

Thanks,

Did you install KB2995388 as reported in the post from a couple days ago?

Add the machine by IP, does this enumerate the printers properly?

Hi,

Could you advise the steps you are taking to add the printers and the steps you are doing to view the printers in the Console?

I ran into a similar situation few days ago, but I was using Server 2008 R2. Setup couple of printers on the server. The printers are working fine, but when I go to "Print Management" (through another machine to manage printers remotely), couldn't find it there. It turned out I didn't add print server role on that server. After adding that role, I was able to manage the printers, ports, drivers using the "Print Management" tool.

Hope that helps...

As I read it you add the printers under the Control Panel (Devices and printers). I am quite sure this runs in user context so printers there are not running as a real shared printer via the print service.

The print service role must be installed and all printers you need to share be added through the Print Management console.

Removing KB2995388 fixed the problem.

Exact Same issue here - we use TS - Servers for remote admin on occasion - 2008 R2 -

I can nslookup via FQDN from the windows 2008 R2 server  - windows 8.1 works fine on print manager version - 6.3.9600.16384.

2008 R2 uses print manager version - 6.1.7600.16385 - not working can see ports drivers etc.

Firewall off -

Cant see DNS being issue as 8.1 works - as if the security between 2008 R2 is blocking reading the printers offered on 2003 print server.

Anyone else resolved.

Hi JA,

It does not sound like you are running Server 2012R2.  This thread is regarding an issue when printers local to Server 2012R2 are not enumerated on the local machine when launching Print Management.  When running the powershell command get-printer, all the printers are listed.

Can you confirm your configuration?
