Pre-installing software prior to workstation delivery
I'm wondering how most people handle pre-loading a user's software prior to delivering their workstation. It seems like most people I've talked to are using a custom solution, which is something I've been looking into as well, but if there are vended options out there I'd love to save myself the hassle.

Are you using OSD? MDT? You can build out roles in the database. Or do package mapping. I'm a big fan of not putting them back and letting the users go get them unless you know for sure they are being used. That way you get rid of the crap that's not being used anymore. We use Self Service from SCCM Expert to allow users to install software from SCCM themselves. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

SCCM will be best suited as per ur query. It is not going to provide u the facility of doing OSD ConfigMgr can do OSD very well ... Prestaging software? A client will begin to download the files as soon as it received the advertisement. You can set the mandatory schedule time a few days in the future. The client has got some time to download the package before it will be installed then.

Hi Grant, do you mean pre-load the HDD at vendor premises, with a custom image which includes apps, and then the pc gets delivered to the user site? vendors we've worked with that offer this service are Lenovo, Dell, Acer, HP. also, there are system-integrators/resellers that offer the customisation service, as part of a complete sell-you-the-box-and-apply-custom-image offering. some of these vendors/integrators will also create your image for you, based on your requirements. it comes down to $$, mostly. I'm in Australia, so offerings may vary by region, but I'd expect plenty of services like this (there's always somebody ready to take your cash!)tesgroup
