Pre-Deploy application to a device for installation at a later time.

Configuration Manager 2012 R2

Many of our users are working in very small offices around the world or working from home in locations with poor internet connectivity. We are in the process of upgrading to Office 2013 but the installation files are around 1GB and for many users working in remote locations this will take a long time to download.

Is there a way I can pre-deploy the installation files to the users ccmcache folder over a number of weeks and they get the user to install Office 2013 from the application catalog but instead of first download the installations files from the distribution point it will get them from the cache folder and as a result greatly improving the installation time.

Thanks

Tim

Well you could set up a DP in that office. It doesn't need to be a server it could be the receptionist computer. (as long as it meet the requirement) Configure it to use prestage  content and prestage the office 2013 package/application. From that point on you could change the boundaries to that DP and have all of them grab it from that DP. This would let you manually transfer the file over as the rate you want.

You could also just use the DP with the rate control in the DP properties to set the transfer the way you want.

If you can`t have a DP make the to use Branchcache in the deployment method. And deploy it to one computer.

branchcache info here:http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/10/08/true-deployments-utilizing-branchcache-with-configuration-manager.aspx

Hope this help get you started

Content for applications (and packages) deployed as required will be downloaded by clients (into their ccmcache) beginning at the available time of the deployment. Thus, you simply need to set the required time of the deployment far enough into the future o allow for the content to be download.

I think Jason's approach is simpler, but Fred's approach is more bandwidth-efficient. Either way you have some good options.

Yeah i was under the impression that he did not want to transfer office during the day but would allow smaller app to be deploy. So i gave him a way to transfer office only during the weekend for example.

But if the only requirement is time Jason is WAY better.

Hi,

You can also use the Cache only feature in Office 2013 to cache the files, I prefere this as the CCMCache can fill up or be cleaned up if you don't have a big cache enough.

Then you can deploy Office 2013 installation files to all clients in your own pace and when they are out there you deploy office 2013 from the local cache.
