Pre-Deploy BITS 2.5
I'm trying to pre-deploy BITS 2.5 before we deploy the SCCM client. I've looked in WSUS for KB923845 and can't find it. Are we supposed to be able to deploy BITS 2.5 via WSUS? I'm trying to avoid the reboot for the BITS client install during the SCCM client install. Doug

Probably not... however here is a trick.. Try running setup.exe /download <path> That path will contain all the pre-requisites, including the BITS 2.5 packages for each language and platform, you can then deploy using software distribution and avoid the network hit at deployment and the reboots.

Sorry, I guess I should have given more information. We don't currently have SMS running. We are purchasing SCCM and are hoping to deploy Office 2007 to our clients before the training classes start. We've got a maintenance window next week and I was hoping to get BITS installed because the clients will be rebooting for the monthly MS updates anyway. Then, when we get SCCM installed, pushing out the client will not require a reboot.

You can download the evaluation edition and use setup.exe to download the client prerequisites, then pre-deploy them

Thanks, Stan but how do I deploy the BITS client if it's not in WSUS and I don't have SMS running (besides doing it manually on each of the 600 clients)?

However you do that now I suppose - group policy or logon scripts would be about the only levers you can pull.

I am in the same situation as you, looking to setup SCCM and need BITS deployed to my clients. I have a WSUS server but I dont see a way to deploy BITS via WSUS. I was thinking of using a GPO, but I'm open to othersuggestions. Ideally I'd like to use WSUS. If you found a work around can you please let me know? post here and/or email sackvegas@eastlink.ca

Sorry, I did not use a work-around. I just pushed it out right before the Thanksgiving holidays figuring most people would shut their computer down. Most did, but we had to ask some to reboot afterwards. Sorry I'm not much help.

So you just allowed the BITS to upgrade as part of the SCCM Agent install? I was trying to be a keener and update BITS before hand.

Would anyone know why Microsoft has not made BITS 2.5 part of WSUS updates? I believe BITS 2.0 was part of WSUS. Would make my life so much easier if BITS 2.5 was part of WSUS. Doh!!!
