PowerView along with SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi,
I have a Sharepoint 2010 environment with content databases on SQL Server 2008 R2. Is it possible for me to use Power View on this environment or should I replace the whole 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2012? Ideally I think it should work since POWERPIVOT
tabular instance was already available in 2008 R2 as well.
Any pointers please?
Regards
Manoj

Hi Manoj,
Thanks for the post.
Power View is installed when you run the SQL Server 2012 install and on the Feature Selection page choose Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Products. This is a newer version of the add-in that is installed with SharePoint 2010, with one of
the new features being Power View.

SQL Server 2012 (Denali): Power View installation and requirements
The requirements to use Power View:
-Power View is only available through SharePoint and requires Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise Edition
-Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint integrated mode
-Microsoft Silverlight 5
-Tabular model connection in SharePoint Server 2010
-Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Products installed from SQL Server 2012 (Business Intelligence edition or Enterprise Edition) onto the SharePoint server you want to have Power View
-Analysis Services 2012 for using a tabular mode server, or Analysis Service 2008/2012 for using a PowerPivot for SharePoint workbook.

Hi Suhas,
Thanks for replying.
So in my above mentioned environment (Sharepoint + SQL 2008 R2), I should just install the RS Addin from SQL Server 2012 setup and I should be good to go. Then Power View should be able to use the SSAS instance (named POWERPIVOT) from 2008 R2 as the data
source. Correct me if I am wrong.

For Power View to work, you need both, the RS Addin of SQL Server 2012 + the RS 2012 server installed in SharePoint integrated mode.
