Ports used by Click Once Report Builder 2.0
I am in the position of asking a question about something about which I am not very well informed. I am in the Navy's NMCI network. Everyone access this network using a Computer Access Control (CAC) card. People can log onto any machine in this network using the CAC card, however in addition most people are assigned a machine of their own. Some people are characterized as non-developers. Their machines plug into a drop called a non-developer COI which does not block any ports. That is because these people have no admin rights on their machines. Other people are characterized as delevopers with full admin rights on their machine but their drops which are called Developer COIs have by default all ports blocked. We implemented Report Server with click once on a server in the network. All users who have been added to the report server could connect to the report manager on the report server on the non-developer COI but not on the developers COI. A specific sys admin request had to be added to open port 80 between the two machines (I am not clear on what this means or how this was done. It is what I was told.) Now report manager works fine. But the click once report builder will not download. It delivers an error message saying access denied. The same people can go to a machine on a non-developer COI and Report Builder Click Once works just fine. The suspicion is that the report builder click once download works on a different port than port 80. If this is the case could we know what port is being utilized so we can request it be opened? If this is not the case what other reason would there be for someone being able to download on the non-developer COI but not the developer COI? If more information is needed to answer this question let me know and I will endeavor to find out.Edward R. Joell MCSD MCDBA

Hello Edward, Take a look at this solution with the provided link... http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winformssetup/thread/ef690458-22bc-4d72-a36c-773c1cc6fa15/ Kind Regards, WCC44

Interesting. Based on this thread we tried an experiment. We had one of the develper's whose machine on the developer's COI was returning this error go to another machine on a developer's COI. Bam!! Everything worked as per specification. So we will try to delete that file on the user's own machine and let you know what happens. Edward R. Joell MCSD MCDBA

We were renamed the file referenced in the Thread mentioned by WCC4 yesterday. Then logged off and logged on again. Then we went to the report manager and attempted to use the Report Builder Click-Once button. BAM!! It worked!!. Cudos to WCC4. Let this be a lesson despite the reports of the experts, never concluded that the issue is due to what seems to be the most obvious issue. Always carry out testing of all the different combinations and permutations of circumstances before concluding that "such and such" is the problem. In this case, it had nothing to do with ports, or developer COI versus non-developer COI. It was pure and simply the developer's machine.Edward R. Joell MCSD MCDBA
