Plan for My Site Host capacity

Dear all,

We are planning to provide 1GB my site space to 1000 users.  That means the My Site Host site collection will have max 1200GB.

I have read the article and discussion like:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262500.aspx#storage

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/e4edb027-17dc-483f-bb9d-fe782949d987/capacity-planning-for-mysite?forum=sharepointadmin

I understood that Sharepoint 2013 do not limit the content DB to grow over 200GB. But over 200GB will generate various issue like performance and slow backup/restore.

My question is:
1. Do Microsoft or any party provide solution to break "My Site Host" into 5 or more different site collections (or content DB)
2. If users seldom upload files to their Skydrive Pro folder. What is the size grow for the blog, newsfeed, etc usage? It is difficult to estimate without actually try it.  I hope someone with experience and share. Thanks.

Each user's MySite is a different site collection. The MySite host is an additional site collection (which tends to stay pretty small).

Blog, newsfeed etc. size will grow as people use SharePoint. I don't have any numbers to hand for you unfortunately.

You can create multiple Content Databases for your MySite host. Whenever a new MySite SiteCollection is provisioned, SharePoint will automatically assign is to the ContentDatabase with the least SiteCollections.

So, if you create 5 ContentDatabases, each database will contain 200 MySites. If you need even more control on the assigned of MySites SiteCollection to ContentDatabases, you can implement a custom SPSiteCreationProvider :
