Picture Manger not showing when using a Picture Library
I have two seperate servers with MOSS 2007 (Server No. 1 and No. 2). When I access a picture library and do a multiple upload of pictures the picture manager opens properly when opening and using a picture library from sites on Server No.1. When
I'm on the other MOSS 2007 server (Server No. 2) when I use a picture Library to upload mulitiple pictures, the picture manager does not show up. No other action happens. The client I'm on is Windows 7 using the 32 bit IE 8. However, when I'm using the
XP virtual PC on this client and open one of the picture libraries the picture manager works. I also tried other Win 7 systems and I get the same results when using a picture library on Server No. 2 sites. It must be a setting on Server No. 2 that is not the
same as Server No. 1. Can you assist with any ideas?

I happened to have the similar issue as you described: The
upload->upload multiple pictures menu is visible, however,
after click, the Microsoft Office Picture Manager (OIS.exe) failed to launch, only the “If you have not finished uploading the pictures, switch to the picture
editor and finish uploading. When you have finished, close the picture editor, and click the link below.” page is displayed.
I had Win7,Office 2010 RC installed on the problematic system. Remove the Office 2010 RC and install Office 2010 RTM fixed the issue. However, I don’t think
it is related to the office version, maybe just uninstall and reinstall fixed it.
What follows is some relevant information I found:
http://blogs.technet.com/josebda/archive/2007/03/26/searching-the-visible-moss-2007-code-for-activex-references.aspx
OISClientLauncher
Server Files: TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\IMGLIB.JS, TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\upload.aspx
Client File: OISCTRL.DLL
Also Known As: OSIClientLauncher Class
Function: Integration with the Office Picture Manager
Reference: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms954038.aspx
Non-IE behavior: Integration with Picture Manager will not show.

I checked on the files as stated above here is the results:
Client
oisctrl.dll
21.9 KB
March 06, 2009
Server
IMGLIB.JS
February 12, 2009
56.9 KB
Server
upload.aspx
November 08, 2006
12.4 KB
I also placed the web site in the trusted zone and the picture manager still does not launch.
However on this same Windows 7 64 bit system I opened another picture library on another MOSS 2007 server and the picture manager executed. So my conclusion was it was not the client but the server. Below is the versions of each server.
The version for the server that does work is:
12.0.0.6520
The version for the server that DOES NOT work is:
12.0.0.6510

I had tested in Version 12.0.0.6421 (SP2), it worked. When I click Upload Multiple File, a dialogue box prompt me to input username and password (because my Win7 client
and SharePoint Server are in different Windows domain, and client application such as Picture Manager and Word run in the security context of current windows session), at the same time, I noticed the Office Picture Manager icon appeared in the Taskbar.
After correct username and password entered, the full window of Office Picture Manager show up.
So, I think the issue may be caused by something other than the SharePoint version. What authentication mode are you using (Windows integrated or Form based)? Are
there any reverse proxy such as ISA involved?

I'm using basic authentication. What is different is that I can bring up my XP virutal mode and it works in there. However the client I'm on (Win 7) doesn't work with this server.

What about the situation now?
I still cannot reproduce your issue, Basic Authentication works fine with both Win 7 and Win 7 XP mode.

I need to upload pictures taken from WM6.5 phone into SharePoint picture library today. I find it much handy to open the Windows Explore View of Picture Library, copy the pictures with folders with simple drag and drop operation, because
i am not familiar with the Picture Manager.
