Person or Group column type
I have a list of items with a column "App Members"of column type "Person or Grop". The column looks at a specific WSS group that I created called "App Users" When I first started working with the list, I could view the list in a datasheet and select a value from the drop down. I have been making changes over the past several weeks and wentto make updates to this list in a datasheet mode, but now I am not able to create or update a record. The reason is that no "App Members" are available in the drop down within the datasheet mode. However, when I go and edit a single item in "Edit Mode", I can successfully modify any item. The WSS group "App Users" has read access to the site but does not have access to the list in question. I do have an "Admin" group that has "Full Contorl" permissions.Any help is appreciated......

The Person or Group Field Type is tricky when adding users that have never visited Site. When using the UI to add users it will addthe user to theSiteUsers collection first and then update ListItem,To programmicallyadd or update a ListItem with the name of a user that is not in the SiteUsers collection they must be added then you can add the user to a SharePoint ListItem as an SPUser (nn;#Name), then nn emumeration is important because an SPUser from a Site Collection will be different in other Site Collections for the same user.

Thanks for the reply. This was working with users that never visited the site and without writing any code. I am confused on why I have to add a user to the listitem as a SPUser.

When using SharePoint User Interfacea Person will automatically be added into the SiteUsers Collections when selected. The SPUser is an object in the SharePoint API.

1. this only works when you have access to read the members of the group. There is a group setting along the lines of "Allow all users to view group membership" that allows users other than the group ownerto view the members of the group.2. Have you added many more members to that group since you first started working on the list? The dataview may only support user selection when the total number of users is limited to some number. This is just a guess, but worth investigating, as I can't think of anything else that would have changed since you "first started working with the list".

I resolved my issue. When I access the site via server name, the list of members within the group are displayed in the drop down. When I access the site via the domain name, the list of members within the group are not displayed. I corrected the issue.

Multisy-I thought that I had this working, but realized I did not. I started lookin into the AAM, but am a little confused. I do only have the server name listed in the AAM. Does the public facing url need to be in the AAM? If so, could you provide some guidance? Thanks

Multisy-I started experimenting in the AAM and I was able to get things working. I entered my domain into the "Internet" zone and everything works. Thanks for the suggestion.Ben
