Permissions needed to allows non site owners run Site Usage Report

Hi All,

We are running SP2013 Enterprise, and are looking for some help with Site Usage Reports (Popularity Trends), and the permissions that needed to to granted to a non-site owner to allow then to open the site usage report (not site collection)

In SP2010 there was a user permission for sites "View Web Analytics Data", that could be granted to non-site owners that allows non-site owners to view the old style reports.

From my investigations it seems that in SP2013 users seem to need the "Manage Web Site" permission, (and a few others) to get access to the site usage report, this permission gives users access to actions such as "Delete this site".

Has anyone else come across this issue and been able to find a satisfactory solution ?

Hi Spotty,

There is a big difference in web analytics function between SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.

And in SharePoint 2013, the web analytics is a function included in Search Service Application.

As Popularity Trends has been displayed under Site Administration in Site Settings, and it is by design that we need to have Manage Web Site permission(and other permissions) to be able to access the page for Popularity Trends.

If you do not want the users who can access Popularity Trends cannot delete the site, I recommend to hide the link Delete this site using code based on the users as a workaround.

Thanks,

Victoria

Hi Spotty,

i think you can try out below workaround without changing permissions -

1.) Create a navigation link in your site with name 'Popularity Trends' or whatever name you want from Site Navigation or Top Link bar Settings.

2.) Set URL for this link to Popularity Trends URL which is as follows -

http://<yoursitename>/_layouts/15/Reporting.aspx?Category=AnalyticsSite

This way you don't have to play around permissions and it gives you direct access to Popularity Trends right from the navigation.

Just like in below screenshot where i added the link in top navigation.

Hope it helps

Thanks,
Danny
