Permissions in document library
Hi folks, I have one wss site i want to provide read level permission to one of the group(ABC Group) and set it to document library in the site. and inside the document library i have some folders and i want to give contributor permission to the group(ABC Group) which i created earlier.i can achive this by item level permission.But my question is users from ABC group can able to delete those folders. can any one suggest me how can i disable to the delete permission to those users who exist in ABC Group else tell me any solution to fix the issue.Thanks,Nivas

Hi Nivas.You can create a Custom Permission Level for this group. Assign the Add Items and the Edit Items to this permission level (but don't add the Delete Items permission).See also Manage permission levels. Hope this helps.Regards,Magnus My blog: InsomniacGeek.com

Hi Magnus, Thanks for your reply. i am sorry i was not clear in my question.I already completed the procedure which you sent in your answer.now i cannot delete any folder inside the document library as well as item(document) inside the folder.Now my question is i cannot delete the folder inside the document library(this is OK) but i can able to delete the items(documents) inside the folders bcz i have contribute permission for that. please suggest me any valid procedure.Thanks,Nivas

Nivas,in that case, you can give the group the Delete permission back and add an Item Deleting event handler on the list/library. Whenever someone in the specified group tries to delete a folder, catch that in the event handler and throw an error. Let non-folder item delete's pass through.
