Permissions Reporting Tool Not showing all features - SPS3.0
I just installed the Sharepoint Admin Tools ver 4.0 and went through the deployment and activation of the Permission Reporting Tool. Everything appears to have installed correctly and the tool does show as deployed and activated. The problem I am having is when I go to a sites settings, the only option from the Permission Reporting Tool that is listed under Users and Permissions is the "Check Effective Permissions". "Broken Inheritance Report" and "Compare Permission Sets" options are not shown anywhere that I can find. Any suggestions on what I can possibly to do or what is maybe going on? I'm new to SharePoint and not quite sure which direction to go in. The only thing I could think of is that maybe these options aren't available with SPS 3.0?\ Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Hi, Although you think you have installed it, apparently it doesn't install correctly, and it doesn't increment the version number of Microsoft.SharePoint.dll. I suggest you need to have SP2 with the April Cumulative Updates. Because you can't activate the Permissions feature (called "Security Report") at the farm level if that version number isn't higher than the April CU number. Here is a link about SharePoint permissions reporting tool, please take a look: http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/A_1975-SharePoint-permissions-reporting-tool.html Secondly, remember that only administrators can access these functions. I wish you every success in your important work. Best regards, David HM

Hi Dave, My version is at 12.0.0.6545 which is August 2010 so I don't think I'm in need of year old April CU updates. Maybe I'm incorrect though? Is there anything I can check to make sure of what version I'm at? I guess what I'm asking is whether it is possible to have 12.0.06545 as version without having the April CU updates? If it is can the April CU of a year ago still be installed and not mess something up? The link you provided is the link I used to get it setup. I think some of the features I want just aren't available in SPS 3.0. Maybe someone running Services 3 can chime in and verify if this is correct? This should be the easisest thing to determine, but as usuall something that should be simple is not. Go figure. thanks

Update:: Well I have figured out the issue to this problem. I would have thought this would have been an easy answer by someone here on technet who is experienced with SharePoint, but of course this was not the case. You have to be a site collection administrator in order to view the extra options and this is not specific to just the "permission reporting tool" but rather to many other admin functions such as the ability to delete and edit users and groups. I discovered this while cleaning up permissions I found that I was not able to edit or delete groups or users which I found odd. All the guides I came across explained exactly how to do this, but I was missing the actual options that they referred to. So I poked around in site admin and found the "site collection administrator" had nothing set. Added myself as the admin and now all options are visible. So just because you have full control to your sites does not mean you have complete admin access. Add yourself or do your editing using a site collection admin. thanks
