Performance issues question
I have been looking into some performance issues on my SharePoint farm. While looking int this I have noticed some disk performance issues on my SQL cluster that are beyond what is recommended. For example: the logical and physical average reads and
writes per second are all greater than 0.025, with spikes up to almost 1.
My disks on this SQL cluster are actually SAN disks. My question is: can I expect lower performance such as what I am currently seeing because the storage is SAN instead of actual physical disks on the server? I realize this is a SQL/SAN issue, but I know
a lot of people have this setup with SharePoint so I am hoping someone would have an answer.

Hello Michael,
This is more of a Windows level question rather than specific to application like SharePoint. If you see bad performance on SQL Server's disk subsystem, it will affect reads/writes of SQL Server and hence will affect the overall performance for SharePoint
too.
I would suggest you test the Physical Disk counter values when using SAN disks and Physical Disks to understand the difference. You can refer to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb734903.aspx for threshold values. Please remember to click 'Mark as Answer' on the post that helps you or click 'Unmark as Answer' if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
