Per-User Error during Client Install

One one of our servers (running Terminal Services / Citrix Metaframe), the SCCM client will not install. The error being reported is:

ExitCode: 1603 Action: LaunchConditions. ErrorMessages: Configuration Manager Client does not support per-user installations.

It began as a client upgrade from a working SMS 2003 client, but we've done a full ccmclean, uninstall, registry clean, launching from Add/Remove, etc and nothing will get the install past this point. We've successfully upgraded identical servers with Citrix and TS roles. Are there any other switches or direct MSI manipulation that may be able to get around this?

thanks!

What is your command line and method for installing?

This is what we are using:

ccmsetup.exe SMSSITECODE=CM1 SMSMP=[fqdn of MP] SMSSLP=[fqdn of SLP] FSP=[fqdn of FSP] RESETKEYINFORMATION=TRUE

We put in the SLP because some of our clients are in another forest. This particular client is in the same forest as the site.

I know you have done most of this but do this and see if helps.  I assume it might still have some sms 2003 client on there

  • ccmclean the machine.  Restart
  • Veryify  the registery settings SMSMobile Client is gone
  • delete the CCM and CCMSEtup folder
  • Remove the smsconfig.ini file from the windows folder

If computer has mostly ConfigMgr 207 client install files then use the ccmsetup /uninstall from the ccmsetup folder and see if the done the trick first.

If you feel really crazy you can repair WMI to be on the safe side.  Then restart the machine and copy the client setup folder to the desktop and run your setup command again and see what happens.

Unfortunately none of that worked. Does anyone have an idea of what per-user setting the MSI might be detecting?

No, I have only seen that error only a few times.  I assume that during the install it is thinking that the ALLUSERS command is set wrong.  I have applications that can run in Per-user or shared user space.  I was always able to resolve it by clearing every thing out.

See if this solution helps:

This worked for me,

install the client as normal, it fails.

then run ccmsetup as system using psexec.exe -i -s cmd

no more user context. Allusers=2 or install=all or reinstall=all did nothing for me.
