People search returns duplicate profiles

Hi,

I am running SP 2010 server. The production server has two web applications and my site has been set up. Additionally active directory sync has been set up.

When I do a search for people I always get three profiles returned to me, all being the same. I don't have a problem with duplicate returns when I search for documents - only profiles.

I checked the search service application which I think is causing the problem. If I go into search service application - manage content sources and edit local sharepoint site I find the following in the start addresses field:

http://site_one
http://site_two
sps3://site_one
sps3://site_two
sps3://mysite.name

Because I'm getting three returns of the same profile when I search for a person, I'm leaning towards that the problem is being caused by having sps3 site one and two in the start addresses section. My guess is that if I had only the mysite address I would only get one profile returned when searched. Or if I createed a second content source just for the mysite address, however I think I would still get three duplicate profile returns.

I'm not an IT or SharePoint administrator, just a power user with access to the server so I don't want to change anything without having a good idea of what I should be doing (despite having backups).

If anyone has advice or has experienced this as well I would appreciate the assistance.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This issue seems to be caused by multiple sps3 protocol in the content source.

Please remove sps3://site_one and sps3://site_two from the content source, then do a full crawl.
