People picker in Word document not available when saved locally?
HI, I have a word document as a content type with multiple columns. When I fill in the columns and save the document to a sharepoint library all is ok. That is, when I reopen the document, all columns are still filled in Word. When I save the document to my local harddrive (C:\) and reopen it, all fields are filled except the people picker field. This one is greyed and shows "Currently not available". Is this expected, and is there a workaround?

Hi, I think this is expected. According to the message “You must be working against the server to view or change this property”, when document has been saved to the local, properties on server cannot be viewed or changed except document properties such as “Title”. Hope it helps. Thanks for your understanding. Lily Wu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.comLily Wu

Ok, thanks. The weird thing is I can change other columnfields without any problem. For example a textfield called subject, which is a sitecolumn. Only the people picker fields show the error.

Hi willemschwarte, People and Group column is quite unique as it is necessary to interact with server to query users from AD. Therefore, saving the document locally makes it unavailable to query AD users and give the message “You must be working against the server to view or change this property”. Hope it helps. Hello All, I just went to the content type where I created the columns and changed the people picker columns to hidden and then changed them to optional again and wala, it worked! Michael Williams
