People Picker & Edit in Datasheet
MOSS 2007 SP2 So, the behavior is as follows: The people picker works as intended when adding a new item to the list. It is able to resolve any user on the domain. When editing the people picker field in data sheet view however, only people who are members of the site are able to be resolved. The odd thing also is there are also a handful of seemingly random people thrown into the list. Anyone have a resolution or explanation of the people picker behavior?

Ah yes... the PeoplePicker is NOT your problem here. The problem is that you're using the DataSheetView. DataSheetView is actually and Active X control that is self encapsulating and has it's own implementation of the fields in order to resolve them in a spreadsheet format. It resolves the person field types against the Site Users table internally. The Site Users table keep track of all users who have actually been to the site, or is explicitly added to a security group for the site. That's why not every ID can be resolved. I'm not aware of a workaround other than to either have everyone visit the site or add everyone explicitly to a security group for the site.I trust that answers your question... Thanks for the info. I was aware that the people picker resolved users who were members... but I couldn't figure out where the other users were coming from. (the users who accessed the site)

Does anyone know if this is resolved in SharePoint 2010? This is a messy ugly problem for me actually. I want to provide datasheet views filtered on "my name" and if I can't get manage them in the datasheet view I have a large overhead. I did add users (ugly mess trying to add a thousand users and out of sync immediately with "all users").vin
