Parent and Child Site Architecture
Hi all, We have a stand alone SCCM installation that functions as a central/primary site server and has all the component servers configured as well. This server is working fine and clients report as expected. There is a move in our organization to bring up another central site server at which point the existing standalone server would have to be migrated as a child of the newer central site. Both of these will be in the same Active Directory forest and will be using Native mode. Has anyone seen this situation before? Is it easy to migrate the standalone server to become a part of another central site? What about the imapct to clients? Your inputs are much appreciated! Thanks!

So you want to place the existing site as a child site of a new (=no custom collections, advertisements etc) primary site? No impact on the clients then. Just set the new site as a parent site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693958.aspx

HI, If the new central site has no advertisements then there should be no impact on clients. However the old site will inherit all the collection, packages, images and other objeects. None of the objects can be changed from the child site including the default collections.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund
