Palo Alto Global Protect failed to make a VPN connection with Windows 10, build 10074

Client installs, but when trying to make a connection nothing happens.

The client worked fine in build 10041. Anyone else that have problem with this?

Hi Emarth,

Thank you for sharing this.

Windows 10 build 10074 Networks settings seem to be still having issues regarding configuration.

See this thread fro reference:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d6401dfa-2081-4c7e-b845-01427b691a06/networking-breaks-after-build-updates-could-not-add-the-requested-feature-the-error-is-no-such?forum=WinPreview2014General#5dbc2441-0099-48f2-a601-5cccb62a00bd

While NetSetupShim.dll is most often has description to Network Configuration API.

We may take a try to use the Windows 10 10074 Install media to repair the computer, or run the dism command using the ISO file.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

Where X is the ISO mounted drive.

If the above won't work, please take use of Windows Feedback Tool to submit this. This should be fixed in future builds.

Regards

I've tried these methods with no luck.  It isn't installing the service for some reason it appears.

I also have the same issue . Worked fine in build 10041, now wont connect in build 10074.

This wouldn't be an issue as simple as windows firewall, could it be? Allowing the app through?

If you look through the logs of PANGPS you will see, that GlobalProtect is trying to install the Virtual Network Adapter driver. Than the application crashes.

I tried to install the drivers manually, but PanGPS will ignore the installed driver, tries to install the driver again and crashes. Additionally the setup of GlobalProtect doesn't create the PanGPS service  and I had to create it by hand with the command:

sc create PanGPS binpath= "C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect\PanGPS.exe"

Tested this on my installation, creating the service manually worked fine.

Thanks!

For me it isn't working, because the driver won't be installed.

So, I now have the latest build, 10122.... OpenVPN works fine now but Global Protect still will not install the driver correctly....

After upgrading to build 10122, the connection looks ok, but no traffic will pass trough the tunnel.

I then tried to reinstall the client, then the service will not start...

Tried different version of the client, with no luch.

No solution in build 10130 with GlobalProtect64-221.msi.

The Service is getting installed, but the driver is not.

In the PanGPS.log logfile:

Error(  51): Driver is not installed, reinstall it now!

In the file debug_drv.log you can read: [Info   327]: Driver install component fails with error 0x80004001!

If you install the driver manually you will see that the device is installed at the false device path ROOT\UNKNOWN\0000 which is ROOT\PANGPD\0000 at Windows 8.

So maybe because of this GlobalProtect isn't finding the driver.

Correcting the path in registry has no effect :(

I am very anxious for a fix to this problem....I remain with windows for the ability to be able to work using the surface.

Yes same here...very interested to see if this will get fixed in a future Win10 Build or if we need to wait for an upate of the GlobalProtect installer

It's not just Global Protect, I haven't been able to install any third party VPN such as Cisco or Shrewsoft. They all seem unable to properly install their respective network adapters.
