PXE service point limitations
Hello,
I'm currently working for a customer who is planning a new SCCM 2007 site structure. The client has
One Global Headquarter Office = Central primary site planned Up to ten Headquarter Offices = Primary sites planned Up to 350 Branch Offices in each Headquarter Office = One server incl. DNS, DHCP, RoDC, Secondary sites planned
Up to 100 Clients in each Branch Office
The Client in the Branch Offices shall be deployed using SCCM Operating System Deployment (OSD). Therefore each Branch Office shall get a PXE Service Point and a Distribution Point roles installed.
But according to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680869.aspx there will be a limitation for the PXE Service Points:
"The maximum number of PXE service points is dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, network speed and the volume of PXE requests. As a result, the following is offered as a guideline:
Up to 10 PXE service points per site, with a maximum of 75 PXE service points per primary site database."
How hard this limit will be? Will we get out of support if we have one PXE Service Points in each of the 350 Branch Offices? Can someone explain why there is that limit and how to workaround it?
Would it be possible to have the PXE Service Point in the Primary Sites only and receiving the boot file and the OS from the local Branch Office Server?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas

I don't think that this limit is really hardcoded. I suggest calling MS to get an official statement.

No. Clients would get the bootfiles + WinPE from the PXE SP.

"Up to 10 PXE service points per site, with a maximum of 75 PXE service points per primary site database."
this is offered as a guideline
The maximum number of PXE service points is dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, network speed and the volume of PXE requests.
