PXE Service point rejecting clients
I'm currently trying to get 2 VMware workstations in a lab to take a task sequence via PXE. As best I can tell the config is fine on the service point and with WDS, the smspxe.log file shows a connection attempt but then rejects the workstation as being unknown. (See below). When I've had a look at the log the GUID being reported by the service point is a backward version of the real GUID of the machine. From a MS article I gather this is a different way of writing the GUID in wire form but I'm wondering if this is causing our issue. Does anyone have any ideas?? example from Smspxe.log: <![LOG[Executing LookupDevice(181A2D42-A636-BF73-5E99-7FA56D93D7D8, 00:50:56:AD:69:A6)]LOG]!><time="15:54:01.627+000" date="03-21-2011" component="smspxe" context="" type="0" thread="1048" file="database.cpp:394"> <![LOG[CDatabaseProxy :: LookupDevice succeeded: 0 0 0 0]LOG]!><time="15:54:01.627+000" date="03-21-2011" component="smspxe" context="" type="0" thread="1048" file="database.cpp:444"> <![LOG[MAC=00:50:56:AD:69:A6 SMBIOS GUID=181A2D42-A636-BF73-5E99-7FA56D93D7D8 > Device not found in the database.]LOG]!><time="15:54:01.627+000" date="03-21-2011" component="smspxe" context="" type="0" thread="1048" file="pxehandler.cpp:349"> <![LOG[[192.168.008.030:67] Recv From:[000.000.000.000:68] Len:548 15a4770]LOG]!><time="15:54:05.701+000" date="03-21-2011" component="smspxe" context="" type="0" thread="3044" file="smspxe.cpp:663"> <![LOG[Executing LookupDevice(181A2D42-A636-BF73-5E99-7FA56D93D7D8, 00:50:56:AD:69:A6)]LOG]!><time="15:54:05.701+000" date="03-21-2011" component="smspxe" context="" type="0" thread="1048" file="database.cpp:394">

Just import the VMware workstations in ConfigMgr (OSD > Computer Association > Import Computer Information > Import single computer) or (as Niall wrote before) advertise the Task Sequence on "All Unknown Computers" (don't use a mandatory advertisement on that one)My ConfigMgr blog: http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.com Follow me on Twitter: @henkhoogendoorn

Have seen that Vmware changes mac (normaly when moving between servers, but sometimes from creating to starting) maybe it does this with the Guid also?

You need R2 on your SCCM. Unknown computer support for PXE can be enabled in R2.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Thanks folks, we aren't using R2 at the moment so unknown support wasn't an option. I'll look at putting it on when I get the chance, for now I've manually imported them and they are picking up the pxe advert correctly.
