PXE Booting Question
if you want it zero touch then you'll have to make the task sequence advertisement Mandatory, so be careful with that, cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

Yes, thank you. You are correct. But.....we will not have anyone present to press F12 and trigger the PXE boot. Can this be automated? We can reboot any system and when they reboot we want PXE boot to AUTO START and AUTO RUN a SCCM Task Sequence. Is that possible? mqh7

Which F12? If it's the machine's boot order/boot sequence then there is nothing ConfigMgr can do for you there as that's a hardware/vendor specific issue. If it's the WDS F12 prompt, that goes away with a mandatory advert as suggested by Niall.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

Jason, it's the F12 during system startup. We reboot and then press F12 to bring up the PXE Boot option. mqh7

Hello Mqh7, I assume you want to schedule an automatic reinstallation of the machine? Remmeber that you can perform this as well without "rebooting the macine with F12". While the machine is up and running in Windows, you can advertise the Task Sequence and reinstall the OS that way :) Hope I undersood you question correctly. Have a good weekend! Best thing is to create a specific collection for zero touch deployment, and place the mandatory advertisement on that collection. That way you can decide which devices are receive a new installation. Just put the device in the collection, and start installing! Use wake-on-lan for starting the device on a specific time!

I am agree with Henk solution..but respective PC have healthy SCCM client..if not need to install it ..then can be mandatory advertisment hit to this PC..

I agree. If you want to do 100% zero touch there is no need to reboot and press F12. 1. Make sure you have the SCCM client installed and running on the target machines 2. Create a proper Task sequence 3. Create a New Collection 4. create a mandatory advertisement of the TS to the collection 5. Add the machine/machines you want to reinstall into this collection and they will reinstall themselfes. Make sure to test, test and test som more. And be very sure that you do your advertisement right. Mandatory in SCCM means mandatory, if done wrong it can create a mess

We have so many remote offices we need to do a 100% zero touch deployment. We can trigger a reboot on any machine in our environment but is there a way to have PXE-boot auto start and auto run a SCCM 2007 Task Sequence? Thank you. mqh7

Hi there, Jason’s comment is correct. Just correct the boot order/boot sequence, then you doen’t have to press F12. Just watch out for the mandatory advertisments.
