PXE Boot for Unknown Computer SCCM 2007
Hello, I've ran into a problem with PXE Boot for unkown clients. I have at the moment SCCM 2007 and MDT 2010. I can't set the PXE Filter because MDT 2010 doesn't have that option anymore. Until I upgrade SCCM I wanted to pxe boot unknown computer as well. I tried with no change to the machine and I got TFTP timeout. Then I tried to Import Computer Information to Computer Association and TFTP responded, but I can't boot anything. It shows: Pending Request ID: 378 (the number changes every time I try to boot). Any tips on this will be greatly appreciate it. Also I wanted to ask something. My SCCM server is a Windows 2003 Enterprise Box. I'll have to upgrade it to Windows 2008 R2 before upgrading SCCM? I inherited this structure from an old sysadmin who left the company. Sometimes it feels like I'm fighting the wind because there are a lot of things missconfigured. Thanks & Regards, Stefan

I had old 2003 SCCM sp2 r2 server and it died last year because it was old hardware, eventally I installed 2008 x64 with SCCM2007 and MDT over it, without touchung the PXE filter. If you are using SCCM 2007 with a Task Sequencer just install MDT and use MDT integration wizard to install. MCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007

Hello, My problem is that I don't get to the Task Sequence, even though it works fine for computers already in SCCM. I'm having issues with machines that are not a part of a SCCM collection. I don't mind adding them manually, but the problem is that it doesn't work. Case 1: Machine not in SCCM - I get TFTP timeout. Case 2: Machine details (Computer Name, MAC, GUID) are added with Import Computer Information via Computer Association, I update the membership of the collections and I get Pending Request ID: 378, 375, 376 etc. The number keeps changing, but I don't get to the point where it loads the boot image. I hope that clears my problem.

when you advertise a Task Sequnce you need to mark "make this a PXE boot.." and choose unknown computers collection + make sure in PXE role that it's marked "support unknown computers"MCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007

I don't have that option because I don't have R2. I have SCCM 2007. No upgrades done on it. It works fine for machines that are already in SCCM. I have no trouble booting with PXE and running the Task Sequence.

You need R2 to support unknown computers, it's a quick installation that requires no reboot and you get that feature to workMCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007

Do I have to upgrade my secondary sites as well? Edit: Though that may take time to get approvals for. Is there a quick way to fix why I can't import properly machines in SCCM?

you need to upgrade the site which is booting, there is no way to fix it, if you want to import manually stick with this version, but doing it to 2000 pc's is not realistic MCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007

I understand that I need to upgrade it. But that's not my call in the end. I don't have that many pc's to import anyway. I have about 20 or so next week. I wanted to figure out a way to make importing work properly until I can upgrade the server first to SP2 and then to install R2. Thanks, Stefan

until you upgrade the only thing is to import manually by GUID, a lot of job - the GUID is long. The upgrade process can be done with the few hours and it makes you work betterMCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007

I know that. But for a few days longer I want to import them manually until I get approval to upgrade. BUT: I can't import properly. The machines just aren't in SCCM after I import them.

Create a collection and import the GUID to that collection, after the OSD is done and you join domain they will register to All Systems CollectionMCSA | MCTS - SCCM 2007
