PXE-053 after upgrade to 2012 R2 SP1

As the title suggests, we have upgraded to R2 SP1 and can no longer F12. We get the good old PXE-053.

The smspxe.log reports:

requestmpkeyinformation send() failed -reply has no message header marker

I have deinstalled PXE and WDS and the boot images and reinstalled them  - twice.

I have restarted all  the necessary servers.

Still no luck

Any ideas?

Thanks

How about to remove old boot images, uninstall ADK 8.x and install ADK 10, then import Boot image ver. 10 manually, enable PXE support and distribute it to DPs?

My opinion is, since youve upgraded to R2 SP1, you will be needing ADK 10 as well.

Hi,

Have you checked mpcontrol.log on the MP?

Please try the following steps(I know you have deinstalled PXE and WDS and the boot images and reinstalled them)

  • untick the enable PXE checkbox on the distribution point. Answer yes that you want to remove the Windows Deployment service.
  • remove boot images from your distribution point
  • After 5 minutes delete %windir%\temp
  • check with server manager. If WDS is done uninstalling there is a reboot pending. Reboot.
  • check if the remoteinstall folder is located on your system. If it is delete it.  If it fails to delete due to permission issues with the SMSTempBootFiles path, delete all folders except that one and then rename the remoteinstall folder something else.
  • reboot
  • Add the PXE point again by checking the box on the distribution point properties. Check the distrmgr.log and see if the remoteinstall folder reappears..
  • Replicate the boot image to the DP again.  After they land you can try running an F12 and it should roll smoothly.

Saw that on another forum - tried it twice. Still no go.

Interesting though that when I untick the PXE checkbox it doesn't offer to remove the WDS - I have to do that manually

TO all the above we added:

Install the upgraded console on the primary site server

reinstalled SCUP

reinstalled Trend antivirus

Then reinstalled pxe, wds and boot image.

Finally worked - don't know which bit above fixed it but it works!
