PLEASE!! Desperate for help . . .

I have created a school intranet using Foundation 2010, which has been working fine.  This summer I created subsites for students.  Since they will be allowed only Read access and only to some parts of the whole site, I have gone to unique permissions.

The student sites are set up and looking great when logged in as a teacher or admin.  However, I logged in as a student to check to be sure everything was right, only to find that in several of the list webparts the student can't see any of the items.  He's not denied access to the webparts, but no items show up.  As a member of the student group, the student has Read permission for the top site and the subsite for all students.  He has individual user permission for his own site.  He (via the group) also has specific list permissions for all affected lists.

I haven't been able to find any difference between the lists for which he CAN see items and those for which he CAN'T.

I'm getting desperate as the students will be arriving in a couple of days.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!

Hello,

there is no security to access web parts, at least not without a lot of setup.

If you use list view web parts on a page and a user cannot see any items in that web part, they don't have permissions to read the items. This is either because

- they don't have read access to the list

- they have edit access to the list but can only see items that they have created themselves.

Check List settings > Advanced Settings and make sure that "Read all items" is selected. Set the appropriate choice for editing, too.

Great idea, but I've checked and they have read access to the list and read all items.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your help Teylyn!!

Can the user navigate to the list in "View all Site content"?

Can they see the list on the "All Site content" page?

Can they open the list to the default view? Can they see list items in the list's All Items view?

If yes to the above, something is not right with the List view web part on the page. Maybe it is filtered to show only items "Created by [Me]"??

Hard to tell without knowing more detail.

Thanks - got it.  One column was a lookup from a list they didn't have access to.  The list view was filtered on that column, so nothing came up.
