I have a SharePoint 2007 server farm setup. There isn't an official iFilter for pdfs availbable on x64 machines so I installed the workaround from adobe labs. http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/PDF_iFilter_8_-_64-bit_Support It works but when I look into my craw log I get a rather big amout of failures with pdf files. (only pdf's other file types work) Here are the 2 different errors that I find in my logs. - Crawling this document could not be completed because the remote server did not respond within the specified timeout. Try crawling the server later, or increase the timeout value. You may also try scheduling crawls during off-peak usage times. - Error in the Site Data Web Service. Some general remarks. ------------------------------------------------ - The file sizes of the pdf files are less than 1MB- I did a full crawl - The files open perfectly in Acrobat reader - Not all pdf files have the problem. Some pdf files do index correctly. - Server is responsive and opening the files goes smoothly even during indexing. - Indexing the file fails. The searchdoesn't seem to find the metadata (doc lib columns)neither ( it works on other files ) Setup -------------------- Sharepoint farm. (Webfront, indexing and database) All x64 bit machines. The doc lib is about 9GB in size. Any ideas? Regards, --W

W -- Based on that error, you may want to try increasing timeout setting for your crawls that include PDF files http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/50093454-1705-4692-a813-630f5c7ddf811033.mspx?mfr=true Or as the error suggests, see if running the crawl at a different time (when traffice on the servers is lower). Since the Adobe product is such a (for lack of a better term) kludge, it may be difficult to find a whole lot of good information or support for it. I have noticed the same issue. I found that if I made an incremental crawl, right after the full crawl, the pdf files would get crawled.
