Outlook 2010 Calendar issue - can't delete items of shared calendar, but can move it of

So I'm deploying Office 2010 to our group and our office assistant/receptionist helps manage several calendars and he was able to do so witout problem after the upgrade from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2010. But the other day out of the blue he started to not be able to add meetings to peoples calendar, but that now works in part to the /cleanfreebusy switch, but he is not able to delete meetings from other peoples calendar. He keeps getting the following error mesg: "Could not complete the deletion. The items may have been already deleted or moved. "

 

He does have full editor access for the calendars. The other users are still using Office 2003, except for two (who are using 2010), but he has the same issue with their calendar also. Now here is the really strange thing, he is able to drag and move (holding the shift key down) the appointment from the users calendar to his and then it's gone from the other persons calendar, then he is able to delete it from his calendar without any issues.

 

I have removed and recreated the Outlook exchange mail profile. The meetings he puts on peoples calendar does show on those peoples calendar. I've run every Outlook command line switch I could find.

Dear David,

 

Based on my research, this issue might be related to many factors, such as some third-party add-ins’ conflicts. At this time, I suggest checking the issue by starting Outlook in safe mode.

 

Start the Outlook program in safe mode

==============

1.       Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.

2.        Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click Microsoft Outlook.

 

If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Office program, we can try to disable them. Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Outlook program:

 

Disable add-ins

***************************

a.     Click File menu à click Options à Add-in à click Go button in the Manage: Com-in Add.

b.    Check if there are any add-ins, clear the checkbox to disable them.

c.     Close the Office program and restart it.

d.    Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart the Office program, and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we can determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.

I too have this issue with deleting calendars. So far I have found that this only affects shared calendars as everyone's individual calendars work fine. I have noticed that if someone with full rights creates an appointment and wants to delete it they can do so if they open the appointment and delete it from there. If they try to just highlight it and right click and select delete or hit delete on the keyboard or delete from the main ribbon it will give that error message, "Could not complete the deletion. The items may have been already deleted or moved. "

Now I have also found that if you do any of those options and get that error, you can then no longer open the appointment and cancel it in there as it will now give the same error message. So if you do one of those options to be able to delete the appointment you have to completely close outlook and then restart it, go to the shared calendar and open the appointment and then delete it.

I have attempted safe mode and while in safe mode it does work like it should and things properly delete. So I have looked at all the add-ins and have found that nothing helps. While in normal mode the following add-ins are active:

Business Connectivity Services Add-In
Microsoft Exchange Add-In
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import Add-in
Microsoft Outlook Social Connector
Microsoft SharePoint Workspace Proxy for Outlook Add-in
OneNote Notes about Outlook Items

Now the following add-ins are inactive:

iTunes Outlook Addin
Microsoft Access Outlook Add-in for Data Collection and Publishing
Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in

And then the disabled add-in is:

Windows Search Email Indexer

 

That is how they were in normal mode now in safe mode they show up like this. Active application add-ins:

Business Connectivity Services Add-In
Microsoft Exchange Add-In
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import Add-in
Microsoft Outlook Social Connector
Microsoft SharePoint Workspace Proxy for Outlook Add-in

As you can see the only difference is with Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in. Now if you go to manage the COM Add-ins while in safe mode, the VBA add-in doesn't even show up. But in normal mode it shows and says that it loads on demand instead of load on start. I have tried disabling all of the add-ins but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

We really need this to work as we are trying to get everyone onto 2010 and we have lots of shared calenders that we need. Hope someone out there can find me a solution for this.

I too have the same issue.  The issue is resolved by opening outlook in safe mode.  Although even after all add-ins are disabled, it still won't work when Outlook is started up normally.  Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Sometimes you need to uninstall the application (versus disabling the add-in in Outlook) that introduced the add-in.

 I've been following this thread, we've tried everything, this is pretty much a bug, just waiting for enough people to complain so Microsoft can confirm and fix it. With no add-in's, 3rd party apps etc...this is recreatable.

Well it is now late September and we have still not heard anything from Microsoft on this issue. I now have all of my admin staff on Office 2010 and most of them have been trained on the workaround but that is not an exceptable solution.

Come on Microsoft, lets get a fix for this.

it is now late Oct and i do not know of an answer yet.  I have the same error code with two appointment that have no subject.  they cannot be altered or deleted...a bug.

I am surprised that this is still an issue.  My manager and I both have Office 2010 and I am a full delegate on her calendar. I cannot delete items from her calendar so for the work around I just change all the dates to 2015 in the hope that Microsoft will fix this issue.

I can confirm that I am seeing the same issue here - two assistants on Outlook 2010, connected to Exchange 2010 in RPC over HTTP mode, cannot delete items from their boss' calendar, even when they have Publishing Editor access, and are the ones who added them.  Safe Mode does not help, the issue persists.

Logging in through OWA lets them remove the event, but this is a lousy workaround.

Hopefully, there will be a fix sometime soon!

I have a user with the same issue... I did find a work-around... perhaps this will work for you?  Have the user try Shift+Delete. This bypasses the mailbox owner's Deleted Items folder.  But it seemed to work for me.

Same problem here. Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 SP1 RU2.

It is not possible to delete meetings that the delegate has planned in the calendar of the manager.

Is it possible to receive a fix?
All solutions in this post does not work.

In addition to Jef, I just realised something, in our policy we have enabled the option deleted items in the delegates folder. Can anyone confirm that this is also enabled in your infrastructure?

I have the policy enabled for "deleted items in the delegates folder" and I have tested it by setting it to not configured but that did not fixed the problem.

Hello,

This problem has become worse for us - this morning, multiple users reported that they can no longer delete appointments by opening it from a shared calendar, and then deleting it.  They are getting the same error as if they try to delete it directly from the calendar - "Could not complete the deletion. The items may have been already deleted or moved."  I spoke with the people who have the affetced calendars, but they have not changed any settings or permissions on their end.

Is there any fix in sight for this issue?  Our executives do not want to give their assistants access to their deleted items folder.

I have the same issue.

Still testing, but so far the only thing that works is to have the user Shift+Delete the entry.

Anything else, no joy.

We are running a mixed environment right now, mostly Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007, some users on Outlook 2010, and just starting our migration to Exchange 2010.

I have the same issue and this this might be a bug in the system. I do have GPO enabled for "store deleted items in owner's mailbox instead of delegate's mailbox" under 

User Config -> admin template -> microsoft outlook 2010 -> outlook options -> delegates

If I disable or put in it not configured the problem still exist.

I too read that knowledgebase article. I can follow the registry key path until I get to Options. There is no Options\General folder listed.  We have installed Office 2010 on approx 10-15 workstations both Win7 and XP. General folder is missing from all of them. Any other place it might be? Where do we put this DWORD Value "delegatewastebasketstyle"?

I am having the same problem. I tried giving the delegate owner permissions on the calendar owner's deleted items folder, but that did not help. Please fix this!

I believe I have found a solution for this problem. If you add the assistant as a delegate on the owner's account and give them rights to the deleted items folder, the problem goes away. You can't just share the calendar, you actually have to add the person as a delegate.

The issue with this is that in some cases, the person who has the Delegate does NOT want an assistant to be able to see the Deleted Item folder, and its contents.  This has been cited as a specific reason not to grant the access noted - "They're allowed to see my Calendar, but not my email, even the deleted stuff."

When access is granted to the Deleted Items folder, it's also granting access to potentially sensitive emails that the owner has deleted.

Assistants need to be able to delete stuff, without being able to see the Deleted Items folder and its contents.

 Yes, also without adjusting permissions, this is not an issue with Exchange 2003 using Outlook 2003 / 2007 clients. This is something specific to Outlook 2010. The work around is indeed interesting as to what this is affecting but overall, this is still a bug with Outlook 2010 IMHO.

I was having this exact same issue in my environment.  Exchange 2007 SP2 with Outlook 2010 SP1 clients.

The answer ended up being a registry key related to this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/202517

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\General\DelegateWastebasketStyle

 

I simply deleted the key and relaunched Outlook, and it worked.  The registry key was set to 4, which tries to force the deleted meeting into the delegator's Deleted Items, but the delegate doesn't have rights to that folder(something common across most companies).

Removing this key forces Outlook to move the deleted meeting to the delegate's Deleted Items.

 

I have a group policy in place that "should" already be forcing this, but it doesn't seem like it's 100% effective.

 We actually went in and gave them Ownership of the delegated "Deleted items" box so the reegistry setting set to either or should work and it does not have any effect. Also if we close Outlook, open it open the appointment, they can delete it, only when they can't delete it is from the calendar view prior to opening the appointment. It's a bug, let's hope SP2 addresses it.

The delegate needs Author(at least) rights to the other user's DELETED ITEMS folder.  In exchange 2007, deleted appts. and meetings went into the delegate's deleted items.  In 2010, they are moved to the originating user's deleted items.

after searching for a while I found out that

Deleting the appointment works fine in the following scenarios;

  1. When the same user is logging into Outlook Web App, the user is allowed to delete the same appointment.
  2. When the same user is logging into Microsoft Outlook 2007 on Windows XP, the user is allowed to delete the same appointment.
  3. When the user is allowed to delete the same appointment Microsoft Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 the user is allowed to delete the same appointment.

so to save time you can delete that apponitment from the outlook web access and use this command in the run

outlook.exe /resetnavpane

This just started happening to me today and it appears none of the other admins/assistants here are having this issue.  The helpdesk was no help so I googled and found this.  The shift+delete does work but it's a shame we have to work around a bug.  I tried several of the other suggestions in this thread (including disabling all addins) to no avail.

Hello,

When a delegate tries to delete manager meeting from manger 's calendar, outlook freezes out.

1) It works fine in OWA, can delete same meeting in OWA.

2) Delegate provded access on manager top of mailbox as editor.

3)) Delegate have access to manager's deleted items folder as author.

4) She also have send on behalf of permission from server side.

This all started all of sudden since some some days. No other user have reported this issue.
