Orphaned site system - how to uninstall roles when old site is gone
Hello, I have a scenario where I am getting this message in the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER status viewer when trying to make this server a site system: SMS Site Component Manager detected that site system "\\COMPUTERNAME " is currently in use by SMS site XYZ. Possible cause: You accidentally configured SMS to use this site system as part of this site and as part of site XYZ. Solution: Remove this site system from the list of site systems for this site or for site MLR. The list appears in the Site Systems node of the SMS Administrator console. Here is the story behind this: Had a very simple 2 server SCCM site where there was one Primary Site server (Server1) hosting it's own DB ect... and a site system (Server2) that was a Distribution Point and a Software Update Point. The Primary Site server (Server1) crashed with no backup so everything is now gone in regards to this primary site. Now I built another Primary site (Server3) that was hosting it's own DB ect... I wanted to put it's database on another system so I moved it's database to the original Server2 server from the old site (the one that used to be the DP and SUP for the old SCCM site). I then also made Server2 a DP and SUP for the new SCCM site. While everything seems to have gone mostly ok, I get the errors above in the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER status viewer. My main question is, how to I remove roles or make Server2 forget about that old site? If I have to remove all those new roles from Server2 that's fine, I can do that, but once they are removed how do I remove the roles it thinks it still has from the old site? Is there anyway to make it forget about that old site without removing it's new roles from the new site? All servers are/were Windows 2003 Standard 32bit Service Pack 2. SCCM R2 SP1. Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the tips Jannes, unfortunately there is no console available to delete that site system any longer as the site that Server2 was a member of doesn't exist any longer because it crashed with no backup. So when trying to add this site system to a new site it resisted with those status messages. I think I have it fixed now though, I went into the SMS registry keys on that site system and removed their references to the old site and replaced the information with information from the new site. If anyone has any better way this should have been done let me know (manually uninstalling a site system role with no SCCM console), otherwise this worked well and I didn't even have to remove any of the existing roles it has from the new site, all status message are green now and looking good! Here are the keys, this was a DP and SUP for the old site, I'm assuming that if you were to reproduce this solution that typos would really mess things up so be careful. Please backup your registry before trying this at home. I rebooted the Site System and Site Server after updating these keys.
