Ordering of apps...
Does anyone know of a way to order the packages to come down a certain way? I used to work with Zenworks and in there they had a number system that could be used to order the apps as to when they came down to a workstation. I am looking for something in SCCM that might be similar or just a different way to make this happen. I know there is a "run this program first" option, but is this the only method? I would have a big string of "run this program first" if that would be the case and I have heard if you have a bring string of "run this program first", some issue may arise, what issues, not sure though.Hope you can help. Thank you in advance.

I don't think Task Sequencing will work because it has to be an O/S and the apps have to load before a user logs on…and I think the O/S has to come down from SCCM, is this a correct statement?

Task sequeces are not dependant upon OS deployment. You can use them to order app installs and set conditions on those apps.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

So if a machine gets reimaged with the operating system built into the image and I have to push about 15 or so applications down to the machine, a task sequence will work? If so, how would I go about doing this. Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to the task sequences node and create a new custom task sequence and add the install software step into the tasl sequence and you will see. Make sure The program specified has the Allow this program to be installed from a list of software packages in the “Install Software” task sequence step without being advertised then advertise the TS to your computers that need the apps.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

Sorry to do this, but where is the task sequence node? Do I have to enable something on the server side of things to make this work? Also, if I have an update to the package down the road, will that cause the entire sequence to rerun? It sounds great.

it's under os deployment. no it will not cause them to all rerun. you would simply update the apps and deploy it.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

I have modified some programs and checked the box Allow this program to be installed from a list of software packages in the “Install Software” task sequence step without being advertised. I clicked Apply, then went back to the task sequence, did a refresh, but don't see anything. Should I be seeing my programs? Also, how do I assign the task sequence to the machines? I don't see an option to do that. Please help again, thanks.

Also, do I have to update the DP's once I made that change on the packages? I created the collection for task sequence and I have a machine in the collection. Just need to know what to do to get the apps to come down.Thanks.

They also can't be set to "Run only when a user is logged on" if they are they won't show up. Once you get the TS built right click on it and do Advertise Task Sequence. This works like any other advert.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

What about if down the road a app needs to get reinstalled, when I check in run advertised programs window, I just see the name of what I called my task sequence, not the individual programs. Would I Have to have seperate task sequences for each program, I would think that would defeat the purpose. Please help, thanks.

If an app needs to get reinstalled you need a normal advertisement for that one program. You wouldn't rerun the TS. If you rerun the TS it will rerun the entire thing
