OpsMgr 2007 R2 Cumulative Update 5 - Server 2008 R2 SP1 Domain Controllers WMI Memory Leak
Good Afternoon Everybody,
I'm experiencing an issue with our OpsMgr monitored domain controllers. The domain controllers are Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 and it appears that WMI is leaking memory as described in this article:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/06/09/wmi-leaks-memory-on-server-2008-r2-monitored-agents.aspx&sa=U&ei=Rxp6T7TbE6bniAK8_tAc&ved=0CBAQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNEe2Ajq5VWf9_MRrQW4xhnD76sSrg
However this article only pertains to Server 2008 R2 monitored agents. I've created the performance monitor as described in the article and ran performance reports to ensure that this is the issue im experiencing. It appears to happen over several
weeks so it didnt really affect the domain controllers until now because they are generally rebooted at least monthly. It was suggested that we could increase the WMI buffer size however this does not seem like a sound course of action. Any information
that could be offered is greatly appreciated.

Rob,
I appreciate the response. I've checked all of the hotfixes on that page as well. I've also checked all of the hotfixes I can find as well as the version number of all of the WBEM Files. All of the applicable hotfixes
apply to version 6.7600 (Server 2008 R2 Pre Service Pack 1) all of our domain controllers are 6.7601(Server 2008 R2 SP1). The Article from Kevin Holman is directly applicable. We are experiencing all of the symptoms including the winmgmt service
not stopping and WMI calls failing but the hotfix is not applicable to the systems. Once again all help is greatly appreciated.

Suggested hotfixes for WMI related issue on Windows platforms
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2591403
A couple of these are Post SP1 but dont seem directly related. We run all those + KB2547244 on our 2008 R2 SP1 servers, cant say ive ever seen a WMI related memory leak.

Thanks Eddie,
Unfortunately that was the hotfix that i tried to apply and due to the file version it is not applicable to the system which is why I am confused. SP1 on R2 was supposed to resolve this issue however it hasn't.
All the file versions on those hotfixes are 6.1.7600 and all of the file versions on our servers are 6.1.7601 so when you try to apply any of them it states that its not applicable. Thanks again for your responses. They are greatly appreciated.

Thanks you all for your help. This hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2547244 ended up being the answer to the issue. I apologize for not reading closer in the first place. I went back and looked and after closer inspection this hotfix does in fact apply to R2 SP1. Once
again all your help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for bumping;
we're having the same issue. I've tried KB2547244, but the issue didn't go away.
Any other suggestions?
