OprMgr service causes CPU to stay at 100%
We have been running SCE 2007 for a couple of years with no problem. I had to reboot the system a couple of days ago and had to manually start the oprmgr health service. It runs fine for a couple of hours but then the CPU spikes and stays at 100%. If I stop the service then the server runs fine. I also have solarwinds networking monitor tools running on this server. The server was not updated and no changes were made to it, but I was told that computers were not reporting to SCE and I was asked to reboot the system. Specs are: VMware virturalized server running: windows server 2008 SP2 standard (32-bit), 3GB Memory, 2CPUs I tried what is mentioned here: http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.com/2009/07/opsmgr-sp1-is-process-healthservice-of.html still a problem I also found these errors in the Operations Manager Eventlog: Operations Manger event log on computer "Server" is still corrupt. The Event log provider will attempt o recover by skipping over a possible bad records. The provider may skip up to two records. Followed this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/9fa83870-69dd-4aaf-b6a2-71dc33468bab/ However, when I restart the oprmgr service, it works fine for a couple of hours then the CPU spikes and stays at 100%. Please help!

Hi, Thank you for your post. Do you mean the process healthservice.exe causes a high CPU usage? Do all the computer meet this issue or just this server? Is this server the SCE 2007 management server? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Clear the HealthService queue on the server: 1) Stop System Center Management service. 2) Go to C:\Program Files\System Center Essentials\, and rename the “Health Service State” folder. 3) Restart System Center Management service. 2. Regarding the issue that the health service needs to be started manually after the server reboot, please refer to the following Knowledge Base article: When you restart Root Management Server, the Health Service does not start in System Center Operations Manager 2007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946417 3. Please also try the methods in the following articles to check the HealthService high CPU usage issue: SCOM\Sp1\ R2 agent shows high CPU utilization http://blogs.technet.com/b/sudheesn/archive/2009/11/13/scom-sp1-r2-agent-shows-high-cpu-utilization.aspx In addition, please also try the following update and see how it works: Description of the hotfix rollup package for System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 and for System Center Essentials 2007 Service Pack 1: July 25, 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954049 If the issue persists, please check the Event Log on the problematic server; if there are any related errors, please let us know the details. Hope this helps. Thanks. Thanks for getting back to me... It’s the healthservice.exe that causes the high CPU usage. When I kill the healthservice.exe process in task manager the CPU usage drops. The problem is not happening on any other computers just on this server and yes, this is the SCE 2007 management server. My System Center Essentials 2007 management console is at v.6.0.1885.0. Is this the SCE 2007 SP1 version? How can I tell if SCE 2007 is updated to SP1? I’m new to SCE and did not install it or configure the application. It was handed to me to fix, so I really appreciate your help. Also, my server OS is at 2008 SP1 not SP2. To clear the health service queue on the server: I don’t have the “System Center Management service” running on my server. However, I stopped the “OprMgr Health service”. I renamed the “Health Service State” folder and then restarted the "OprMgr Health service". First error in event viewer appeared about 10 minutes after restarting service: MPUpdate : Could not parse Management Pack Catalog file: http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/opsmgr/mpupdate/mpupdate.xml : The character '>' was expected. The following error came right after the first error….69 of these for different hosts: The health service {085A90DF-B01C-EC56-38B6-683C396B27CA} running on host 'FT1.abc.com' and serving management group MAPP1_MG with id {5EE1036B-B004-BD34-873B-56EDD72B39BB} is not heartbeating. The Server was running fine for a few hours but then the CPU usage spiked and held at 100%. The Operations Manager Events are completely filled with the following error: The Operations Manager event log on computer 'SCE.abc.com' is still corrupt. The Event Log Provider will attempt to recover by skipping over a possible bad record. The Provider may skip up to two records. Workflow name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.Notification.FailedToSendThroughAllDevices.Alert Instance name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.NotificationServer Instance ID: {4EB81AD1-9638-7C9F-950D-981AD1F4BA5B} Management group: MAPP1_MG I have stopped the "OprMgr Health Service" because the CPU usage flatlines at 100%. If I restart the service then the CPU usage and errors start all over again.

Hi, according to the version number, SCE 2007 SP1 has been installed. At this time, I would like to verify if the suggestion Nicolas provided have been performed. Please refer to the following article and links to troubleshoot this issue: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sudheesn/archive/2009/11/13/scom-sp1-r2-agent-shows-high-cpu-utilization.aspx http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/8060e1d1-072f-48e9-a30a-49e1783dd5ac/ http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/bd2311f7-6b9d-4157-b7fd-ae67856fe52f/ Also try unchecking auto discovery.
