Operations Manager cannot connect to the Web service
The Microsoft Management Pack Catalog Web Service cannot be contacted at this time. There is either a problem with your Internet connection or the Web service is offline Does anyone know of any troubleshooting guides on getting the Management Pack Catalog Web Service working in SCOM 2007 R2? I am assuming it's a firewall issue, but what exactly needs to be made available?

If you are running scom 2007 on windows 2008 64 bit, there is a command (must run as administrator the cmd) to disable the firewall netsh firewall set opmode disablenetsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off

At my company we use an automatic configuration script in IE. While that configuration is active I cannot use the web service either. If I disable using the automatic configuration script, I can use the web service. I don't know why this is, but it may be something for you to look at as well.

Dont think it is a local firewall issue, more then a central firewall issue. But I have seen this from time to time and it was just to wait some time and then it worked. There is a thread here somewhere that describes the exact traffic for that feature, but I cant find it now, will look more later.Anders Bengtsson | Microsoft MVP - Operations Manager | http://www.contoso.se

Restarting WWW service on the SCOM server did the trick for me!

I'm also experiencing this issue. The firewall is disabled and internet explorer is set to an explicit proxy. Anyone have a solution for this? Restarting WWW service did not help in my case. Thank you.

I know this thread is over a year old but wanted to add my solution as it wasn't listed above. No proxy server in play here, browser works fine and all firewall settings turned off. What did work is going into the IE Internet Options/Connections tab/LAN Settings/Uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings". Once I did this, the catalog connected fine. Was even able to reproduce by setting it back to on and it indeed failed. Hope that helps somebody.

I experience this problem now too. Changed the proxy settings in IE, restarted the WWW service and the server itself twice, but without results. No firewall setup. Any other pointers towards a solution?

Maybe it really is down. Looks like you and I have experienced it within the same 2 hour period. Coincidence?
