Operating System Image Update Distribution Point Failing on DP only
I've been searching these forums for days trying to resolve this. When I make a change to an OS image and update my distribution points, the main server deploys just fine. But, the DP (a second server at the other location) fails. Software packages update fine. This issue is only for OS images. The only way to get it to update successfully is to reboot the main SCCM server. This is not always easy to do since many people use this server to admin our computers. The network account I use has full access to all needed shares and folders as far as I can see. I am thinking the issue lies with the below section of the distmgr.log. That folder resides in the SMSPKGSIG folder. Not sure why it says it's used by 1 user. No one is currently deploying a system. RegisterSignatureUsage() called with for Package VPK00021, Version 4 with Targetpath as \\CTM-SCCM2\SMSPKGE$\VPK00021\ SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER D:\SMSPKGSIG\VPK00021.4 already exists SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER Unpacked folder for package version VPK00021.4 is being used by 1 user(s) currently SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER

Hello - Did you try to check who is that user (may be, compmgmt.msc can help)? And try to terminate that connection from this folder. Once that is done, I will suggest you to try updating the package. The folders in the log do not have any sessions connected to them which is what's boggling my mind. I can't figure out if it's an issue writing or reading. The main SCCM server is an admin on the DP. So, it should have read/write to the folder it needs. I killed all share sessions from the main server. The package copy is still failing.

Check the box in your package that says "Disconnect Users after x tries" http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

Check the box in your package that says "Disconnect Users after x tries" http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com I did that. I could see in the log where it was saying it would disconnect the user. But, it would still give me the same error. Could this be due to that feature disconnecting users from the image itself and not the signature folder? I think this issue is the signature folder and not the actual image. But, not entirely sure. I had to go ahead and reboot the server yesterday. The package deployed just fine as soon as it was done rebooting.

Sounds like the share was locked.http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

Sounds like the share was locked. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com I'm not sure what you mean by that. The share with the image in it on the DP was accessible from the main server. The folder that says it has a user currently accessing it isn't even a share. It's a regular folder on the main SCCM server in the SMSPKGSIG folder. I'm pretty sure this is causing my issue. How do I see who is accessing this folder if it's not a share? UPDATE: This morning, I updated one image and deployed a new image to both the main server and DP. The brand new image installed fine on both servers. The update had the same issue as before with the signature folder. It says it's currently in use again. I had to reboot the main server to get the signature to process. Neither the folder nor the file are registered as being in use in Computer Management.
