Opening a .wss file without SharePoint
Is there any possible way of opening a .wss document without SharePoint? When opened in Word and WordPad, the characters cannot be encoded. Would it be possible to convert the file?
Thanks

Can you quantify what exactly you mean by a .wss file? In SharePoint lingo, WSS stands for Windows SharePoint Services (either 2.0 or 3.0), which is in reduced terms a .net application aimed towards facilitating collaboration. It isn't a client application
that produces specific .wss files.
Having had a look at the wss file type, the closest equivalent I came too was this.

If so, you're not really asking a SharePoint question but either a file format question.
