Opening Office files from Sharepoint in Office for Mac takes 1:10 min

Opening Office files from SharePoint 2013 with the SharePoint Browser Plug-in directly in Office takes exactly 1:10 min from clicking on the file until it's fully loaded.

Tested with docx, xlsx and pptx files on both Firefox and Safari with different file sizes. It doesn't make any difference is Office is already running.

Downloading the file (without opening) takes just a few seconds.

On Windows 7 and the same SharePoint Server it also doesn't take that much time (5-10 seconds max).

Systems/Versions:
SharePoint 2013
Office for Mac Version 14.3.9
Firefox: Version 25.0
Safari: Verison 7.0.1.
Mac OS X 10.9

Has anybody a solution?

Best Regards

Try below:

Open IE, go to "Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings" and uncheck "Auto Detect Proxy".

If you run a tool like Fiddler http://www.fiddler2.com/ you may be able to see when the request actually starts and ends. It might also be a good idea to try it with word or excel already open so that it takes the client initialization out of the mix.

The next thing I would check is the Anti-Virus software running on the server. In many cases every file uploaded or downloaded has to be checked by the Anti Virus scanner. I've seen some things over the years where maybe a traditional server based antivirus tool like Norton or MacAfee take significantly longer than expected.

Also in some cases i see that we have performance issue onyl for the 1s time and later it works better

Thanks for your advice.

The problem occurs just in the operating system Mac OS X.
This means I can't apply your first advice in IE as IE is not available any more for Mac OS X.

I could also exclude any anti virus software for causing the problem.

Having Word/Excel/PP already opened before opening the file makes also no difference, I tried this before.

Furthermore, I tested several file types with diffent file sizes in both Safari and Firefox.

On Windows 7 clients there aren't any issues in exactly the same environment.

So, at the moment there's nothing else left I could try and I would appreciate any further advice
