We have a problem concerning our Sharepoint 2007 platform. When users have documents open a long time in Word and saves, sharepoint refuses to save the file and asks for new filename. What to do?

well that wont help. we have hundreds of users. we cannot ask all of them to do this?

if you didn't enable the "requred check out before edit", i am not sure what's the cause maybe it's session timeout problem, or this document have be opened by other user. (if you enable the setting "requred check out before edit", when you edit the document, sharepoint will prompt the user need check out this document)
