Please follow the below steps to start the services.
Check that the windows sharepoint services are started and add the service account in IIS_WPG,WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_WPG.
Register services in the server farm:
psconfig -cmd services -install
Note:
After installing services, you must start and configure two services, Windows SharePoint Services Search and Office SharePoint Server Search, by using the Stsadm command-line tool:
a. stsadm -o spsearch -action start -farmserviceaccount <domain\user name> -farmservicepassword <password>[-database name <content database name>] [-database server <server instance> ] [-search server <search server name>]
b. stsadm -o osearch -action start -role IndexQuery -farmserviceaccount <domain\user name> -farmservicepassword <password> -farmcontactemail <user@domain.com>
c. Provision the services of the farm:
psconfig -cmd services -provisionFred Ellis - MSFT - "Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread."

Hello Fred
Thanks for your replies. I figured out what was causing the problem. I had installed Office 2010 suite which contained InfoPath 2010 in it. InfoPath was the culprit. After i removed it everything worked fine. Thanks for your effort.Regards
