Offline Media in two parts?

I am trying to build a task sequence were half of it can be run on offline media by engineers who build our desktops offsite with no access to the network.  The pc can then to be delivered to the office and automatically continue the 2nd half of the task sequence once connected to the network.

The issues I'm having is that I cannot get the task sequence to continue once it has been powered back on. I have tried running the command line C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 60 and the Task Sequence variable  SMSTSPostAction Value cmd /c shutdown /s /t 0 /f but the task sequence does not continue when powered back on.

Could someone point me to the steps to cleanly power down the pc and for it to continue once powered on?

What you are looking for is something called pre-staged media.

It`s not 100% what you need but the big line is that it`s a media that does the first half of the task all the way up to installing the Apply the OS. On the next boot the PC automatically  start looking for assign task sequence to continue the step.

It`s what would look at the most at what you are trying to do.

I forgot to mention in the above comment that we run bitlocker in WinPE so the drive is encrypted while been delivered ( its a compliance requirement). I don't think pre stage will work with that option.

Another option I am now looking at is to put all of the post-delivery steps such as Join Domain, AD group, ect into a separate task sequence Advertise that to a collection, import the MAC address into that collection and set it as required.
Then when the pc is booted to windows it will run those steps without user interaction. I also have software groups in the TS that install with a variable set and the same set in the collection.

not sure why bit locker would not work in a pre staged media.

But if you don't want that you could make 1 stand alone boot media that contain a task sequence that does everything and stop right after installing the SCCM client.

When the device boot up in the office with the sccm client should connect to the site using heartbeat. You could make a collection that is query base that catch those computer whit some soft of setting and assign a task sequence to that collection that can run from config manager client and that is required that does all the config you want. After that the query will be false and the computer should be remove from the collection.

But like i said earlier you are doing exactly what pre stage was design for so why not use it.

NOTE: If you don't join the PC to the domain you will need to manually approve the computer unless  you configure SCCM to auto approve everyone.

Thanks Fredrick. Ill have a good look over prestaged media for this.

Read this a good starting tutorial

http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2013/09/23/prestaged-media-changes-and-step-by-step-tutorial-of-creating-a-prestaged-media-in-system-center-configuration-manager-2012-sp1.aspx

Don't forget if you want to have bitlocker in the prestaged media task sequence you need to make sure you configure the disk right.
